We have multiple full-time permanent opportunities for innovative and relationship focused Senior Policy Analysts and Analysts / Senior Analysts to join our Wellington office.  

A number of teams in the Ministry are seeking perspectives that advance Māori priorities for the environment through our work. Our teams include:

  • Mana Taiao – developing strong partnerships and fostering relationships and opportunities through collaboration with iwi/Māori; and negotiating the environment components of Treaty of Waitangi settlements and implementing settlement commitments;

  • Freshwater policy – developing and implementing policy that recognises iwi/Māori rights and interests in freshwater;

  • Environmental reporting –reports are informed by a holistic Māori perspective and captures information that contributes to Māori decision-making and well-being

We are looking for a diverse range of candidates who will have expertise in at least one of these areas:

  • An understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, Te Ao Māori and engaging with Māori/iwi.

  • Experience in the negotiation of Treaty of Waitangi settlements and implementation of settlement commitments;

  • Experience advancing Māori perspectives in policy, preferably within central government, local government or the private sector.

  • An understanding of Mātauranga Māori as it applies to biophysical domains (freshwater, land and marine);

To be successful in the role of Senior Policy Analyst and Analyst / Senior Analyst you will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and experience including the ability to inspire, influence and build the capability of others.

Salary range:  $86,005 to $116,360 for the Senior role and $60,605 to $81,994 for the Analyst position.  Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
