 Group Manager Strategy - Wellington

The Ministry of Health is the kaitiaki of the health and disability system in New Zealand and the System Strategy and Policy Directorate ensures that government has the strategic policy advice it needs for New Zealand now and in the future. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior leader to join us and lead our newly established Strategy Group

Reporting to the Deputy Director-General System Strategy and Policy you'll be responsible for developing, leading and implementing strategic direction across the health and disability system.

Through this influential leadership role you will demonstrate excellence in strategic thinking, You will have experience in strategic health innovation and tactical implementation. You will be comfortable presenting ideas, building collaboration and stewarding diverse views publicly, with the sector and internally. We are looking for inspirational leadership that can deliver tangible results for the sector and connect this through the Ministry.

You'll be able to demonstrate your experience leading the development of strategies (ideally across a sector or large organisations) and translating them into actions. You'll be able to tell us about how you've developed work programmes and led teams with different specialties and the experience you have to deliver on these, and you'll know how to monitor progress and report on outcomes. With a strong policy background, you'll understand the machinery of government and know how to get things done.

You are an innovative thinker who can see the benefits in the combination of strategy and policy with data, using analysis and research to evidence advice. You're a leader that people want to work for, with a clear vision and a collaborative working style. You excel at building teams, leading through others and developing people. You have strong working relationships and are as comfortable working across the Directorate, Ministry and health sector as you are leading down through your group.
