Group Manager Public Health System Policy - Wellington

The Ministry of Health is the kaitiaki of the health and disability system in New Zealand and the System Strategy and Policy Directorate ensures that government has the strategic policy advice it needs for New Zealand now and in the future. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced senior leader to join us and lead our newly established Strategy Group

Reporting to the Deputy Director-General System Strategy and Policy you'll be responsible for setting the directorate's direction in public health system policy and providing leadership and oversight of work programmes.

You will have deep understanding of public health issues and policy settings and how they sit within the broader health system, be a specialist in regulatory policy and leading and driving legislative programmes of work, and have an understanding of core enablers within the health system.

As General Manager, Public Health System Policy you'll provide leadership and management of the group and manage and monitor the quality of policy analysis and advice delivered. You'll work closely with colleagues across the Ministry and other agencies to ensure that we are providing great advice, that our strategies and policies align with the Government policy objectives, and that our work reflects sector needs.

Your exceptional written skills and your ability to take complex information and synthesise it into key messages for relevant audiences will be critical to your success. Previous successful experience in collaborating and brokering with other stakeholders to achieved desired outcomes and your ability to lead and demonstate the chosen behaviours and values of public service is required.

You are a highly collaborative policy professional who can see the benefits of strong policy advice using data analysis and research to evidence advice. You'll provide clear direction for your teams ensuring equity issues and our obligations to the Treaty of Waitangi are at the forefront of our thinking and advice. Previous successful experience in collaborating and brokering with other agency and sector stakeholders to achieved desired outcomes is required.
